Microsoft Operations Management Suite now available through Azure portal for greater insight into Azure VMs

Microsoft is making it easier to get insight into individual Azure virtual machines. Its new Log Analytics resource takes Microsoft Operations Management Suite and makes the cloud-based management capabilities available through the Azure portal.

As noted in a blog by Anurag Gupta, program manager for Microsoft's open source technology center, the technology enables IT professionals to provision a new OMS workspace, link such workspaces to Azure subscriptions and onboard VMs directly to OMS.

Log Analytics launched with support for most Windows and Linux distributions currently available on Azure. It supports Ubuntu Server, SUSE Linux Enterprise Server, Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server, Oracle Linux Server, CentOS Linux Server, Amazon Linux Server and, of course, Windows Server.

Also of interest is OMS provides insight into not only Azure public cloud resources, but also on-premises and private cloud environments.

Microsoft is aiming to make it simple and quick to get up and running with Log Analytics. It launched several quickstart templates and Azure VM extensions to help IT pros quickly deploy VMs that are onboarded using OMS.
